Question
186 – Can you discard a “wild” resource from your hand when doing an action like on the Kang obligation “stolen memories” that has you “discard a mental resource” or does this not work since you only treat the wild as a different resource type if its being “spent”? If I’m playing Iceman and I have desperate defense in my hand, can I exhaust to defend, trigger Icemans freeze interrupt and then trigger the response on Cryokinetic perception to see if I can draw an Ice card and ready, then if Iceman doesn’t ready using the response on Cryokinetic perception can I chose to now play desperate defense?
Answer
- No. For a wild resource to be treated a different type of resource, it must be “spent.” Stolen Memories does not specify that the discarded mental resource is “spent,” so a wild resource cannot be used for the ability; only a printed mental resource can be used.
- Yes. Cryokinetic Perception is a Response to “Freeze!”’s Interrupt ability, so it must be resolved immediately after “Freeze!” and in the same timing window, as in the “Interrupts to Iceman’s basic defense” timing window. You’re still in the window after you draw 1 with Cryokinetic Perception, so you have an opportunity to play Desperate Defense before continuing with the enemy attack.
