Question
So, with the recent ruling on the Ms Marvel ally triggering when successfully she cannot take damage, I’m wondering about other cases where characters cannot take damage. For example, if the villain cannot take damage, can I play Heroic Strike targeting them, just to stun them? (It feels like a circular requirement. The stun requires the target to be a valid target of the damage to resolve, and the damage requires itself not to be the only effect on the target. And on the one hand, the damage isn’t the only effect, on the other hand the stun only works if the damage works.)
Answer
Yes, you could play Heroic Strike on an enemy that cannot take damage in order to stun that enemy. The 1.7 update states that a target that cannot take damage is not a valid target for an ability whose only effect on that target is to deal it damage. Heroic Strike has multiple effects on the attacked enemy, so if one of those effects can affect that enemy, it is a valid target of the ability. (We will likely be removing the sub-bullet rule for “that [target]” referring to the target of a previous effect, as the updated ruling conflicts with it.)
