Question

There is a ruling that if the Wolverine identity ally Jubilee enters play multiple times she does not gain the +2 ATK as a new instance of Jubilee. Her response seems different than the Vision Leadership ally, as his Lasting Effect applies to himself but Jubilee’s Lasting Effect applies to an enemy.
If Jubilee’s +2 ATK does not stack to “new instances” of Jubilee, does that also mean it does not apply to Wolverine if he is a “new instance” of Wolverine by flipping up from Alter-Ego Logan after playing Jubilee? What if the Wolverine Aggression ally enters play (in a Cameo Jubilee deck) after Jubilee? It seems to me that if it would apply to a flipped-up Wolverine after Jubilee entered play, it should also apply to “Jubilees” that enter play a second time as the lasting effect is on the enemy.

Answer

To start, the identity is always considered in play, and flipping between Alter-Ego and Hero forms is not considered a “new instance” of that identity. (This is further explained in “Form, Change Form”.)

The previous ruling on Jubilee was made with the interpretation that the chosen enemy, this version of Jubilee, and Wolverine were all targets of her ability, such that a new instance of Jubilee would not be the same card targeted by the first instance of the ability.

However, after reassessing the ability, we believe that it should be interpreted as only targeting the chosen enemy, and that the +2 ATK for Wolverine and Jubilee is not applying a specific instance of either card. This allows each instance of Jubilee’s ability in a given phase to give the same ATK bonus to both characters (which should be easier to remember & calculate). If a Cameo Jubilee is played alongside an ally Wolverine, her ability would function the same as it would for hero Wolverine, such that multiple instances of it will give +2 ATK to both characters each time.
